Manual says 9300 miles or every year. I won't put that many miles on it in a year so it's every Spring for me. Agreed!! I used to change mine about every 3k mi or so, though like JD said, when I start to feel a lack of smoothness too it's time.
At the dealer, dropped oil, checked filter. Oil qty was about 2.4-2.5L (manual says 2.8L capacity) and no obvious signs of coolant in oil, very minimal stress lines seen on oil filter. But this was after 4k+ kms after the last oil and filter change and was inconclusive. So, we put in new oil and filter and decided to observe for 1k kms.
The oil was much more sparkly then I would have liked. There was also a high number of particulates on the screen and magnetic filter. The KTM repair manual calls out 1.7L for an oil change. After Checking and finding the level low at that volume, twice, the engine took the full 2L happily.
