There's rumours the KTM 690 enduro will be discontinued, and the husky 701 enduro will replace. It will be the same bike, same engine, just different colours/badging. Husky is owned by ktm. Don't ask me why! The 690 seems to sell quite well as a ktm. For what it's worth I own the 690 and its a beast.
501 for your type of riding, not an issue on highway. Maintenance not that bad, oil change every 1k miles, clean air filter at 500 or so and adjust chain. Had 530exc for 7 years and now the 500 for 2 with no issues, an hour straight on highway @60-70mph, hit trails for 30 miles or so, ride back home.
